Actor Mick Innes (Housebound, Home and Away) returns to THE BASEMENT THEATRE with the follow up to his beloved solo show Zen Dog… 3 years later, after surviving a heart attack and two major strokes.

He will perform on the very stage where he had his heart attack - an opportunity for the audiences to hear firsthand, with his usual charisma and sense of humor, how it all went down. And how his near death gave him a new life. After a long recovery process, Mick is back on the stage doing what he loves.

ZEN DOG: SATORI is a completely new show, focused on family and some ghosts from his past - many confessions and cathartic moments can be expected. It is an important story due to its simplicity: we take the audience on a journey, using humor and raw honesty. Mick is a fearless performer with a very interesting life, so this show will appeal to anyone who likes great stories.

We need YOUR help. This is a fundraising season for a documentary (currently in production) about his life - an unique opportunity and all proceeds going into the making of the film. Mick and Roberto already started work on the documentary - an exciting visual film about Mick's life, combining animation, interviews with Mick himself, some of his family members and a very honest story telling approach. The end result will be cinematic and touching.

THE TARGET
We need your help in order to raise $1,500 needed to put towards paying our cast and crew - as well as helping the production of our documentary. Tickets to our week-long season on the STUDIO stage at Basement Theatre will raise enough funds to cover our production and publicity costs, but little else. Without your assistance we won't have enough funds to keep working on our documentary, Butterfly - an in depth documentary about the incredible life of this fantastic man, Mick Innes.

By collaborating, you become part of the making of this 100% independent feature and help us cover extra costs for production. Luckily we are a small team - so your contribution will mean the world to us.

Zen Dog: Satori is a continuation of a long lasting friendship and working relationship with Mick Innes. The play will be material for the documentary.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
You can help us achieve our funding target in two easy steps... Step one: donate to our campaign. Any donation, big or small, makes a huge difference in reaching our goal. And step two: support us further by sharing our campaign out to your networks.

Boosted is an all or nothing crowdfunding platform, which means that if we don't reach our target, the donations are returned to the donors and we receive nothing. It only takes 80 people contributing $25 each to reach our target so please support us in creating this show.

THE TEAM
Mick Innes has a career spanning 3 decades, both in Australia and NZ. His credits include classic Australian films like Bootmen, Praise and Two Hands (alongside Heath Ledger) and most recently Son of a Gun, starring Ewan McGregor. On TV he appeared in Home and Away, All Saints and Echo Point - where he played Martin Henderson's father. Back in NZ Mick has appeared in a range of roles in TV and film: Housebound, Netherwood, Amazing Extraordinary Friends, Super City, Sunny Skies as well as the lead in TV3's Hounds.

Roberto Nascimento has been working as an actor, producer and director for the past 9 years. In theatre he has directed Season 1 of Zen Dog (devised with Mick Innes), as well as several short format plays- Legacy Project, Like Minds Theatre, Short + Sweet.
Roberto also works in film, having created the internationally successful web series The Adventures of Suzy Boon (8 international festivals) and another web series, called Sui Generis (Season 1 in post production, Season 1 currently in production). He also directed 6 shorts films (selected by several festivals, including Fort Lauderdale Film Festival, MICA Festival in Brazil, Arohanui Festival in NZ, Pasadena Film Festival, Visionaria). Zen Dog: Satori is a continuation of a long lasting friendship and working relationship with Mick Innes. The play will be material for the documentary Roberto is making - with Mick being the center of it - called Butterfly.

UPDATES

  • We're Wrapped!

    Hello Dear Supporters!

It's been a while, but I just wanted to give you all a quick update to where we're at. So, after months and months, we managed to film the dream sequence last weekend. We had several friends coming to help in front of and behind the camera -it was a joy, Mick and I were stoked. Your donations made it all so much easier, so we could hire lights and buy food for our volunteers! Again - can't thank you enough.

On Sunday we finished the last few shots for the dream sequence, whisch means we are now officially wrapped. Editing will start soon. BUTTERFLY, realistically, will come out in 2018... we will keep you informed and will send you a invite to cast and crew screening when the film is ready.

    Thanks again!

    Love,

    From Mick and Roberto

  • What the hell is happening, Roberto?

    Hi Team,

Just an update because it's been a while and you're probably wondering... "what the hell is Roberto up to?"... fair enough.

So, we are just waiting to find the right day to film (as in, that our schedules match) the dream sequence for the documentary ("Butterfly") and will let you know once we get the ball rolling. I'll upload behind the scenes shots for your enjoyment.

Mick is going to Australia soon, so we are trying to get at least one day out of the way before and then a second day when he gets back. It's a slow process, we are trucking along.

Again - thank you for your donation - couldn't do it without your support.

    Love,

    Roberto + Mick

p.s.: Image is Magritte - one of our references for the dream sequence...

We are flying to Christchurch this friday, to do some more filming for the documentary.

    Watch some footage here:

The film is co-produced by my friends at CHILLBOX CREATIVE [http://chillboxcreative.com/]

We are reaching the end of our filming journey - next step will be post production. For now, we are keen to use the funds gathered to pay for equipment and feed the crew. Very simple requests and the reason why we are looking for help.

The photo attached shows Mick and his wife, Jedda. Their story is part of the documentary.

    Thanks!

  • Final days!

    Hi Friends!

We are fast reaching the end of the campaign and we need, literally, a "boost". We still have a fair amount to go and this is an 'all or nothing' kinda campaign. We appreciate your support, so if you could please share on your social media and with your mates, we'd be super chuffed. Any donation counts!

As you know, we are fundraising for 2 reasons. First reason, we are putting on a stage show - opening Nov 1st at The Basement - our favourite theatre. The money raised will help us pay our tech guy and also will help us not lose money...

Second reason is our documentary. We alreay shot lots of good stuff and both Mick and I were super lucky to have a lot of support. We had amazing cinematographer Pepe de Hoyos Ramos (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3859005/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) in the beginning of our project. Now we are working with the incredible, wonderful, brilliant (can't find enough words to express my love for them) team at CHILLBOX CREATIVE who have donated a lot of their time and equipment for free.

    Here's some footage: https://vimeo.com/184827944

So, making a film costs a lot of money. We are flying to Christchurch to film more at the end of this month, so we want to be able to cover expenses - food, accomodation and some of our equipment.

So yeah, would love your support.

Oh, check this amazing photo by Luke White and Paul Alsop

    Cheers!
