Turamarama Creative Arts Project is created by young
people for young people, to share their journey and wellbeing
aspirations through creative arts.
Tūramarama ki te Ora: 'Bringing Light to the Dark' is
a metaphor given by Maui Te Pou, Ngai Tūhoe, Ngāti Kauwhata. Maui
explained that Tūramarama ki te Ora is a process of moving from the
darkness to the light (Tūramarama), focusing our energy on our
strengths (Ora) and less on deficit thinking.
This project is led by our rangatahi and supported by
Te Runanga o Ngati Pikiao, Kia Piki te Ora project leaders.
Creativity is a way we tell our story share our journey and
express our inner most feelings.
From the 23rd-29th of September 2019 an art
exhibition will be held in the Rotorua CBD where young people can
enter a piece of art to be a part of the exhibition.
With the theme for Mental Health Awareness Week being, 'Let Nature
In' all art work will coincide with the connection between nature
The exhibition will be open to the public, and will
also provide information for our community on mental health and
social services, as well as guest speakers discussing different

Creative Arts will provide six free creative arts workshops where
young people between the ages of 12 and 21 can connect, learn tools
for wellbeing and different art skills in preparation for the
