After becoming the hottest ticket ever at the Auckland Arts Festival in 2013, The Factory is about to embark on its debut International tour this year.

We have been invited to tour Australia and then to headline the Assembly programme at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We need your support to get there.

Hilarious and heartfelt, the Factory is a must-see vibrant, funk-fuelled musical.  Featuring an original score, a live band, slick choreography, and a dazzling array of exuberant and soulful songs, The Factory is a clever and optimistic exploration of the migrant experience that will leave you beaming!

It's 1974 and New Zealand is encouraging the influx of Pacific Island workers. Losa and her father arrive with hopes of a new life. They begin work in a textile factory run by business minded Richard whose son Edward, heir to the family business, takes a shine to Losa.

Unscrupulous Richard, who is dealing with a rising workforce led by militant worker Mose, demands Edward stop seeing Losa, threatening anything to protect his business. Now distanced from Edward and with only the cold reality of factory life remaining, Losa begins to question the milk and honey dream once promised.

Kila Kokonut Krew was created in 2002 to fill a void in the Pacific Island Performing Arts Industry. Vela Manusaute and Anapela Polataivao, both Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School graduates, believed there was no other theatre company that focused on committing solely to the recognition, development and celebration of Pacific voices.

We begin our 2014 international tour with an Auckland season at the Vodafone Events Centre in early June.  Whilst we have support from Creative New Zealand, we still have a need for additional funding.  You can be a part of this incredible international journey by supporting our Boosted project.

Funds raised will go towards the costs of moving this exciting group of people and the production through Australia and while in Edinburgh.

Thank you for being a part of the Factory!

  • The Factory is sounding great!

Today we started our first of two days recording The Factory soundtrack.  With Glen Jackson and Dee Letoa at the desk, the cast spent the day in and out of the studio recording their parts for all the show's songs.  It's sounding fabulous! The Factory soundtrack will be available for sale at each of our shows.
