Without your support the Isaac Theatre Royal will miss out on $150,000 of critical matched funding pledged by the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust. We have until April 17  to raise $150,000 in public donations to secure that additional funding. Support us today and every dollar you donate will be doubled by CEAT, but only if we reach OUR target.

Your immediate support will help ensure our local arts industry can benefit from our spectacular world class facilities for many future generations to come.

The Isaac Theatre Royal borrowed $2 million towards the $40 million rebuild costs. We need to reduce this debt quickly to enable us to consistently provide a sustainable industry for our local performing artists to Take the Stage at the ITR.

You can donate now, be it large or small, and be part of ensuring that this worldwide, acclaimed and celebrated theatre will remain spectacular and continue to bring smiles and joy to all future generations. Every dollar you donate will be matched by the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust, so any donation you make will be instantly doubled.

Make sure that the Isaac Theatre Royal is able to deliver local, national and international live entertainment for yourself, your family and the future families of Canterbury.

That's why, all donors, big and small, have the opportunity to have their name honoured on a special plaque back stage at the Isaac Theatre Royal for all time, so that performing artists from all over the world can see who helped to keep the theatre alive.

  • Over 90%....we're so close!

Thank you all, your amazing generosity has tipped us over 90%. We are so close! As you know, if we reach our target then the theatre will secure a match donation of $150,000 from the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal Trust (CEAT).

Support is so strong and you have been behind us all the way. We are pleased to announce that if we do exceed our target then CEAT will continue to match all donations dollar for dollar.

But, we have to get to 100% first!

  • 63%!!!

Sir Ian McKellen said, “Theatres are great places to meet. Places where we share experiences together…” The Isaac Theatre Royal is unique in Christchurch and holds some of our most precious memories."

We are very proud to have re-launched the Theatre, brand new and improved, but we have a future to secure. Thank you for helping us secure this home for Christchurch performing arts and film.

We have made an amazing start with 63% of the overall target achieved. We now have 9 days left to raise those critical dollars.

After the success of the first open day we are holding a second tomorrow 8 April between 9am and midday. Newstalk ZB will be broadcasting live, and people will have the chance to see the Phantom of the Opera set up close. See you there if you can!

Full event information is available here:

We have just posted a video and we would appreciate if you could share this with your friends and encourage them to Take the Stage with us before April 17 -

  • Open Day a HUGE SUCCESS!

We were absolutely blown away by the support of the Christchurch public on Sunday at our first ever open day. Around 2000 people came through the theatre, and we raised over $7,000 toward our fundraising target. We still have a long way to go and just over 30 days to reach our target. Please help us by getting the word out to your friends and family, and ask them to support us too, every little bit helps. In the coming days we will be announcing a second open day. The first one was so successful, and we have received feedback that there are others that weren't able to make it that would like the chance to take the tour. Watch this space!

    Open Day a HUGE SUCCESS!

  • A message from Barnaby Weir

    Barnaby Weir and Fly My Pretties joined us in launching this campaign on Friday night. They are a wonderful bunch of New Zealand's most talented musicians, and it is a real honour to have their support. They even announced on the night, that $10K from ticket proceeds would be donated to this campaign. When we talked to Barnaby about the Pretties supporting this campaign he was all too happy, and wrote some beautiful words - below;

It really is a very special privilege to be able to support, celebrate and participate in ‘Take the Stage’ funding campaign for the Isaac Theatre Royal.

I have fond memories of bringing Fly My Pretties to the Isaac Theatre Royal. It’s a truly majestic space that makes everyone who enters it feel like a memorable event is about to take place.

The theatre is a jewel of our cultural history and now that it has been fully refurbished we would love to see that it is maintained and sustained for future generations to enjoy.’

I believe Fly My Pretties is the perfect match for the launch because of its unique cast and multiple narratives that represent a broad range of New Zealanders and their experiences.

We encourage others to support the Isaac Theatre Royal in all its glory by making a donation to the ‘Take the Stage’ funding campaign. We are totally amped about our imminent show and performing on its meaningful stage.

Thank you for your donations, please continue to encourage others to join you in taking the stage for the ITR.
