Do you have a love affair with shoes? Shoes Extravaganza is art and theatre for shoe lovers. Shoes Extravaganza is an annual Auckland (Tāmaki-makau-rau) event. It's a shoe design competition for New Zealanders and Internationalists celebrating the best of contemporary, 'pushing the boundaries' shoe design and culminating in a Catwalk Extravaganza.

The inaugural Shoes Extravaganza was held at the Tepid Baths downtown Auckland Oct. last year. It was exciting, visually amazing, and showcased around 25 designers' shoes with an audience of over 100. This theatre designed around the chosen shoes fitted to models was a brilliant new 'Cinderella' story. Shoe design talent got a platform! Audience shoes in the City were strutted! Gucci shoe lovers were dreaming in new ways.

We'd love to grow this unique Auckland event and provide more entertainment and creative expression for all shoe lovers and shoe designers out there in NZ and internationally. We're asking for your support to boost creativity in shoe design, making NZ proud. We have NZ Fashion Week, graduate fashion shows, ID Fashion, and now Shoes Extravaganza.

Donations will go towards lighting, music, paying for a choreographer, rehearsal space and model fees. Last year all our lovely models were volunteers as was our Choreographer. We'd love to pay our team this year for their amazing contribution of time and commitment to the project.

The competition opens in March and is open to anyone over the age of 16. There is a modest entry fee for designers which gives them free entry to the show to be held on Nov 4th this year.

Thank you so much for your donation towards this exciting Cinderella meets Gucci magical experience. You're welcome to join us for a peek preview at rehearsals. See you at the ball!

  • Another HUGE THANKYOU to all of you who've donated ! We only need a little more to cross the line. Tell your friends!

From the Dictionary of Obscure sorrows, a wonderful new word...

    n. the kind of unnoticed excellence that carries on around you every day, unremarkably—the hidden talents of friends and coworkers, the fleeting solos of subway buskers, the slapdash eloquence of anonymous users, the unseen portfolios of aspiring artists—which would be renowned as masterpieces if only they’d been appraised by the cartel of popular taste, who assume that brilliance is a rare and precious quality, accidentally overlooking buried jewels that may not be flawless but are still somehow perfect.

Our dancers and choreographer will be thrilled to know they're valued. They're all extremely talented people and work for very little. I only wish I could give them more but this is a fine begining. xx

  • "Something to remind you forever of your brief but transformative encounter with inspiration".

This from Elizabeth Gilbert in her book 'Big Magic' - "I firmly believe that we all need to find something to do in our lives that stops us from eating the couch. We all need something that takes us so far out of ourselves that we forget to eat, forget to pee, forget to mow the lawn, forget to resent our enemies, forget to brood over our insecurities. By completely absorbing our attention for a short and magical spell it can relieve us temporarily from the dreadful burden of being who we are. Best of all, at the end of your creative adventure you have a souvenir - something you made, something to remind you forever of your brief but transformative encounter with inspiration. Its all just an instinct and an experiment and a mystery."

So thanks for coming on this creative adventure with me. It means a lot to have your support.

  • A huge THANKYOU to all of you who have donated!

It warms my heart to have such dear friends and supporters! Henry Miller said "Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, in things, literature music - the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people". You are certainly beautiful souls and interesting people. THANKYOU, THANKYOU!
