'Sea Walls - Murals for Oceans - Mexico' is an international event which I have been invited to partake in.

The event is put on by Honolulu based not for profit organization 'Pangeaseed'. PangeaSeed  is an international organization, which collaborates with members of the art, science, and environmental activist communities, dedicated to raising public awareness and education surrounding the conservation and preservation of sharks and other marine species in peril.

I have been invited to travel to Isla Mujeres - a small island based off the coast of Cancun in Mexico, to partake in Pangeaseed's latest endeavor. A 5-day diving trip, with a selection of internationally acclaimed artists from around the world, to swim with and study endangered Whale Sharks and Oceanic Manta Rays in their natural breeding grounds.

Drawing inspiration from this amazing dive experience we will be painting several large scale public mural works across the island, to help educate and raise greatly needed awareness within the local and tourist communities for the plight of these animals and the oceans. The murals will also highlight the benefits of ecotourism and long-term sustainability of natural resources.

After Isla Mujere's I will be completing an artist residency in Tulum (130 Km South of Cancun), at Residencia Gorila.

All up I will be in Mexico from 18th July to 21st August 2014. While participating in the residency I will be creating a body of work, directly relating to the experiences I have while engaged within such a visually appealing environment. The main objective of this trip is to raise local and international awareness in order to protect the Whale Shark breeding grounds, and raise awareness to fight against shark finning.

My personal art practice draws influence from indigenous culture, mythology and folklore. Tulum is renowned for its Mayan ruins, rich with history and primitive limestone carvings, so an opportunity to experience this environment first hand, and live with locals for a short amount of time is hugely exciting, and will provide amazing inspiration for many years to come.

It's always been on my bucket list to get to Mexico, and to do so using my art, in support of such a great cause would be a dream come true. So any support you can give me to help turn this into a reality would be amazing, and I am incredibly greatful!

All donations for this project will go towards covering costs of flights, insurance, materials, and the odd mystery meat street taco here and there.

Sea Walls was an absolute blast, such an incredible experience, memories that I'll hold for ever.

The walls all turned out great, all the artists brought their A-game and the island has really undertaken a full transformation with 15 new HUGE really top quality murals!

The people on the island were amazing, such warm loving, inviting people, they really loved the work we all did, and seemed incredibly greatful for everyones hard work.

Whale Sharks, HOLY! I don't even know where to start. Amazing experience, I did three swims with the sharks and had some amazing one on one encounters which were completely mind blowing, such majestic, mystical creatures, I really do hope this project raises awareness for them and helps people take pride in their oceans to respect and protect these beautiful animals.

Here's a couple of shots from my wall on the island.

Also check out the recap video which really sums up the whole experience, created by Aaron Glasson of Pangeaseed!
