My name is Tara Douglas, I'm a New Zealand artist based in Christchurch. I make sculptural works and installations from paper and card, and I have been selected for an art residency in Onishi, Japan, from August to October 2015. Japan has been a great source of inspiration for my art work, since staying there in 2011, so I will return there to work on a fresh new project.

This is a great opportunity to get contemporary New Zealand art out into the world. Through the residency I will have the chance to work on a new sculptural installation, which will be exhibited as part of the Kana Fall Arts Festival, September - October.

The $1120 in pledges I hope to secure from Boosted will go toward the cost of accommodation and studio space from August to October at Shiro Oni Studio, Onishi, Japan.

To keep up-to-date with developments you can follow Tara Douglas Art on Facebook: www.facebook.com/tdouglasart

I may look a little camera shy in the video, but I am outgoing, passionate about making art, and ready to take on a new challenge.

Thanks for your support!

  • Thank you!

I spent August to October participating on an artist residency with Shiro Oni Studio in Onishi, Japan. This was an amazing experience and a huge opportunity, developing fresh ideas and opening up my work to a new audience.

During this residency I created work for a group exhibition of Japanese and international artists for the Kanna Arts Festival, created an entirely new sculptural installation for a solo exhibition at Kotoriya, Shiro Oni Studio, and worked so productively that I produced 3 workbooks of sketches, collages, paintings, research, information and materials (approximately 600 pages, weighing at over 3 kilograms!)

I was able to work more prolifically than usual. This was possible not only because of new materials, an inspiring environment, and being with other hardworking artists, but especially thanks to having a fantastic art studio, exhibition space, staff and volunteers to help.

I want to thank everybody at Shiro Oni Studio, and the locals of Onishi who were so supportive.

This project was supported by donors to the Boosted campaign. You made this possible, and I am so thankful.

  • A very big THANK YOU to you, my supporters!

Reaching 100% of the target means that accommodation and studio costs for my art residency in Onishi, Japan, during August—October 2015, are now covered.

I can’t tell you just how much I appreciate your support. I want to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has boosted this project, your generosity is humbling.

During the residency I will be working towards a new sculptural installation made from coloured card, which will be exhibited as part of the Kana Fall Arts Festival. If anybody would still like to show support for this project, the percentage over the 100% mark will go towards material costs for this exhibition.

As much as local internet will allow, I will keep you informed during and after the planned project.

    Thanks again, Tara Douglas

  • Thank you

I would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who has donated for your generosity and commitment to the project. I am humbled by the support I have received so far.
