Kia Ora, we are Lunar Collaborative. A fresh, emerging, female theatre company comprised of three graduate actors in Auckland. We are in need of your support in funding the prooduction of our debut devised theatre work "Lunar State" as part of Te Pou Theatre's Rangatahi Season on the 17th and 19th of October.

Our Company

Lunar State was first devised as part of Unitec's graduation show season in 2018. From early on, we discovered a shared love for physical and quirky storytelling a skill which has flurished under the guidance of director and mentor Kate Parker. From this, Lunar Collaborative was born. Our ethos: for females to lead and express their creative voice, to break down gender barriers and to give mana to the female voice.

The Show

"At one time, according to Sir George H. Darwin, the Moon was very close to the Earth. Then the tides gradually pushed her far away: the tides that the Moon herself causes in the Earth's waters, where the Earth slowly loses energy" - Italio Calvino (The Distance of the Moon).

Lunar State is a tale inspired by Italio Calvino's short story: "The Distance of the Mooon". Set in a world where the Moon is at first cherished but later ravaged for a precious substance known as "Moon Milk". One girl must deliver this prescious substance to earth. Harmony turns to chaos when an eccentric french man arrives on the moon and is overcome with greed for the milk. His actions are catalyst for a moon milk frenzy on earth. Eventually, the moon is sucked dry of her once sacred milk causing her to float away. A surreal, funny and suprisingly melancholic tale using elements of puppetry, movement and song. An eclectic musical score follows the action jumping from French love songs to Techno-beats. Lunar State speaks to nature's beauty, the power of feminine energy, the chaos of consumption and danger of destruction.
