My Background

I am an Auckland based artist with a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland (2011). Recent achievements include: inaugural Artists Alliance Artist in Residence (2011); AMP National Scholarship Winner (2011); The New Zealand Painting & Printmaking Award Merit Award Winner (2013 & 2014).

The Work

My practice is an exploration of the non objective through painting and installation. A key concept is the idea of the artist as a seeker, searcher or archiver of knowledge in search of self realisation and understanding of the world. The role of painting now is an integral consideration in my work, to find a place within it whilst proposing a discreet examination of the fundamental aspects of abstract painting. I aim to illustrate the realisation of a personal search for logic and understanding of the state of being or the experience of knowing through abstraction.

About SNO
SNO attempts to critically balance different levels of artistic experience, the specialist program aims to sustain policy of innovation and integration of new ideas

Your Contribution
Will directly assist with the logistical aspects of the exhibition, purchase of materials (linen, paint, masking tape), framing, commissioning of contextual text by Dr Peter Shand, freight and allow me to attend the exhibition installation and opening in Sydney.

Thanks so much for checking out my project, your time and support is greatly appreciated and I look forward to sharing the outcome with you.

  • The Home Stretch

    Hi Everyone,

The campaign is down to the final four days and we are nearly there at a cool 93%.

Fantastic! Thank you to those who have donated to the project this week, it means a lot to have your support.

I'm preparing for another big weekend in the studio along with proofing the article by Peter Shand - things are coming together very nicely.

Don't forget to check in on Monday - I hope to have reached the 100% mark by then. If the total goes over then the show will be ever bigger...

    Have a great weekend,

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for your support, I am thrilled with how the project has been received.

It has been really wonderful to connect with you and share the news of the exhibition.

The Boosted campaign is now just past the half way point and we are just over half way on 52% - a fantastic result!

I have been busily developing work in studio for the show over the last month with just over a month left before SNO 104 opens in Sydney.

If you'd like to arrange a time to visit the studio please do!

Jessica Pearless

‘Blind’ a site responsive sculpture by Auckland artists Jonathan Organ + Jessica Pearless, has been curated into Sculpture in the Gardens, the prestigious biennial sculptural event held at the Auckland Botanic Gardens from November 2015 - March 2016. Jonathan + Jessica are seeking support from the wider arts community through Boosted in order to realise the artwork. The Boosted funding will allow us to meet the material costs of 'Blind’s' construction - you will be directly assisting us by making a significant contribution to what is set to be an outstanding event in New Zealand’s outdoor sculpture calendar this Summer.
