We're shouting from the rooftops, from the top of the beehive, from Mt Vic lookout, from Mt Kaukau and all across Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui because Girls Rock! is coming to the capital!

Girls Rock! is a week-long school holiday programme taking place from 8-12 July 2019 at Massey University's Mt Cook Campus, where female, trans, and gender non-conforming young people can build confidence and make great music.

Over the course of the week, up to 40 campers aged 12-17 will join bands with an instrument of their choice, attend lessons, write a song together and perform to family and friends at a showcase at the end of week. Creative workshops will take place daily, as well as performances by local musicians.

Girls Rock! Pōneke will be run by a group of forward thinking individuals with a wide range of music industry experience, dedicated to providing a space for creativity and equality in music.

We have received donations and support from Massey University, Toi Pōneke Arts Centre, Creative Communities Scheme and New Zealand Music Commission for the July camp but we need your help!

In order for our holiday programme to be a success, we need to raise $5,000 which will go towards supplies and equipment, scholarship positions, tutoring costs and ensuring that the camp is accessible and affordable to everyone interested in coming along!

With women making up only 23.8% of songwriters who belong to APRA AMCOS in New Zealand and only 10% of the total royalty pool paid to writers, it is vital to support young women in music.

Your donation will make a difference in empowering the the lives of young people and the future of New Zealand Music, creating more opportunities for women, trans and non-gender conforming youth to succeed in the music industry.

Every donation is one step closer to ensuring our event happens, so please donate today!

Applications are now open for both campers and mentors through our website.
