Help us bring the world wide project Ethno to New Zealand in
2018!
Ethno is a music project for young musicians within the
folk/world music tradition. It is an international network that
started in Sweden in 1989 which has now spread all over the world.
We have now gathered a dynamic team to begin the exciting task of
starting an Ethno in Aotearoa and next need your help to kick us
off!
What is Ethno about?
Ethno promotes emerging artists and provides a unique
opportunity for young people from across the globe to come together
and engage. Through a series of annual international music
camps and workshops, young people experience cultural exchange
through the powerful medium of music.
Ethno is a platform for building respect and preserving cultural
heritage by ensuring that traditional, folk and world music lives
on within young people, and is transmitted from generation to
generation.
The intention of Ethno is to revive and keep global cultural
heritage alive among young people. Ethno is a platform where
meaningful
intercultural dialogue, through music, can take
place.
How Ethno works
At the core of Ethno is its democratic peer-to-peer learning
approach whereby young people teach each other the music from their
countries and cultures. It is a non-formal pedagogy that has been
developed over the past 25 years and embraces the principles of
intercultural dialogue and understanding. The goal is that through
these interactions, musicians will be inspired to deepen their
musical interests and build a global network to support their
future careers. Each Ethno event embraces a combination of
workshops, jam sessions, seminars and
performances to develop young musicians both
personally and technically.
Help raising funds
If we reach our target of $1000 we can become members of
Jeunesse Musicale, the umbrella organisation for Ethno. In order to
do this we need your help to spread the word and to sponsor this
exciting project.
Thank you so much for your support! It means the world to
us.
Love from the Ethno New Zealand Team
