Veronica Herber

I am an installation artist based in Auckland, my medium of choice is masking tape. I discovered a passion for this humble material while completing my BVA degree at AUT University in Auckland.

My interest is materiality and the ability to engage/transform a site by revealing it's surface. There is a direct engagement of the viewer with the work. I am interested in the moment before the intellectual conversation begins, the brief second of experiential connection. My large scale works are ephemeral which increases the commitment or depth of that fleeting moment. There is no transference to ownership, it simply is.

For one of my works I have created a contour drawing on an existing contoured hillside for Headland Sculpture on the Gulf, Waiheke Island. Materials used were 2km of 40cm wide Masking Tape and over 4000 handmade staples. (Exhibition runs till the 15th of February 2015).

Other sculpture shows I have been included in are Sculpture by the Sea Sydney 2015, 2014 and 2013, Cottesloe, Perth 2013, Waiheke Sculpture on the Gulf 2017,2015,2013, Sculpture on the Shore Devonport 2014 and 2012 plus Conversardo en Puebla, Mexico 2014.

I have drawings and indoor sculptures held in the Chartwell Collection, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki and the James Wallace Arts Trust Collection.
