'Fostering, advocating, empowering and encouraging participation, growth and development of arts and culture in Tauranga Moana and the Western Bay of Plenty' Creative Tauranga is a non-profit charitable trust that has supported the arts and culture sector in the Western Bay of Plenty for 52 years. The organisation provides practical support through funding, advertising and information to the arts sector throughout the Western Bay of Plenty district. In addition, staff advise and assist in the development and nurturing of creative projects, events organisation and mentoring of up and coming and established local and regional artists. In 2008, Creative Tauranga made the decision to take a higher profile in the Arts and Culture sector, to more actively promote its services and to open a community gallery within their offices. This resulted in a relocation of its offices to the CBD in Willow Street. This has enabled the profile of Creative Tauranga to be further developed and has also assisted in building a stronger network of positive relationships in both the community and business sectors. Around 50% of the organisation’s funding comes from local government contracts. However, increasingly Creative Tauranga needs to look to other funding sources and initiatives to meet the growing arts and cultural needs of the Western Bay of Plenty community, one of New Zealand’s fastest growing regions. The ongoing goals of Creative Tauranga are to continue to provide a service to it's community that initiates, facilitates, supports, collaborates, empowers and delivers with passion and enthusiasm for all of the arts in Tauranga Moana. We are committed to championing the arts in our region as we celebrate and nurture our local artists across all genres.
