I started dancing ballet at the age of 13.
I currently go to Hutt International Boys School during the day and train after school for 15 hours a week, at Chilton Dance Centre in Lower Hutt. Bronwyn Bennett is my dance teacher, and she is AMAZING. I have learnt so much from her in the past 3 years and she has been very supportive.
Within 6 months of starting ballet, I competed in my first ever competition - the Alana Haines Australasian Awards and earned a place in the quarter finals. Due to my inexperience at the time, I did not make it through to the finals, but I was recognised by the international juding panel by being awarded a full scholarship to attend the 4 week Summer School at Harid Conservatory in Florida, USA.
What an amazing experience this was and it was the turning point in my desire to pursue ballet as a career.
Another top compeittion in NZ is the Sir John Logan Campbell Award held each year in Auckland. I was competing against full-time students from NZ School of Dance as well as other top NZ dancers. I was thrilled to be awarded second place from the Australian adjudicator, which is a huge achievement considering the amount of experience I was competing against.
In 2015, I was awarded the Hutt City Inaugural Youth Award for The Arts.
