Kia Ora Katoa! My name is Jen McArthur and I am a performer of physical theatre, dance and clown. I reside in the lively city of Wellington. My award winning solo show about Asperger's syndrome Echolalia has been invited to showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August this year. This is an exciting opportunity to be seen by worldwide festival producers and to meet other performers and I am currently fundraising to take it there.
I have sought out training and experiences in line with my passion for physical performance, relevance to a community, audience interaction and comedy and these drives have taken me all over the place. I studied theatre at Victoria University, contemporary dance at the NZ School of Dance, choreography at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, circus and physical theatre at Circomedia in Bristol UK and clown with Giovanni Fusetti of Italy. I believe there is a hugely strong voice of talent, content, skill and originality in the NZ performing arts that is hampered by a small population base and distance from international audiences but that with a bit of a push from the home team we can give a strong and unique vision to the world and to our own country.
The other side to my work is street theatre, as I love creating the out of context random colourful experience for people and having a laugh with complete strangers on the street. I have a pot pourri of outdoor event shows - Tropicana, The Inland Life Guards, The Jilted Bride and Carmina Guarana.
