ABOUT ODD SOCKS: Odd Socks builds the bridge between Deaf and hearing communities in New Zealand by developing visual performances and advising the arts sector about Deaf culture and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). Odd Socks teams work collaboratively with Deaf and hearing creative professionals who are passionate storytellers through theatre, film and visual performance.WHAT ODD SOCKS HAVE DONE:2012/2013 Tama short film project; 2012 Copper short film project; 2010-2013 Filming of the Odd Socks feature documentary; 2010 Resolve devised theatre performance; 2010 Odd Socks workshop series where Deaf and hearing creative professionals provided actor training for Deaf and hearing participants; 2009 Words Apart theatre production. THE TAMA SHORT FILM TEAM: JARED FLITCROFT, Scriptwriter and DirectorJared was the first Deaf graduate of the New Zealand Film and Television school and has directed a number of short films including Ripped Apart, Sic and Evacuo, each of which were finalists in the NZ Deaf Short Film Festival. Jared has acted in both Odd Socks Productions Words Apart and Resolve.JACK O'DONNELL, DirectorSince graduating from Victoria University with a Degree in Film, Theatre, and English, Jack has completed a number of short films, documentaries and music videos. In addition, he is a videographer for a number of performances and events including the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). He worked as an assistant editor on the New Zealand feature film How to Meet Girls from A Distance (2012), and also directs for theatre. In 2008, he co-founded Odd Socks Productions, and went on to co-direct their first theatre production Words Apart (2009) with Nicola Clements and Darryl Alexander. He is currently in post-production on a feature length documentary about Odd Socks, which will be titled The Odd Socks Story.JOHNNY CRAWFORD, ProducerSince graduating from Victoria University with first class honours in Film, Johnny has worked as producer, director, writer and assistant director on a number of short films. Most recently, he produced Rageface for the Wellington Fringe Festival and was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Fringe Awards. He is passionate about filmmaking and is excited about being a part of Tama.MEL DODDS, Senior ProducerMel has produced numerous short films including Patrick Gillies’ Kitty which had its world premiere at the Montreal World Film Festival and Louise Leitch’s Whakatiki which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Melissa has worked as a production manager at Weta Workshop, NHNZ, Sticky Pictures and Te Papa. She has produced many commercials, short films and TV shows, line produced Paul Campion’s feature The Devil’s Rock and produced NZFC Escalator feature film Existence.NICOLA CLEMENTS, Executive ProducerNicola is one of the founding members and Creative Director of Odd Socks. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Victoria University and is passionate about creating work that is accessible to a wide range of audience members, and about bridging the communication and culture barrier between Deaf and hearing.
