RIMA is my 5th major album. This self-funded collection of 11 songs was produced by dubmeister Paddy Free. It was recorded in beautiful Piha, on the shores of Lake Rotorua and in Blair Castle (Glasgow) over 12 months. At least 3 songs were written during the 70 minute drive from Muriwai Beach to Piha. Paddy kept a straight face as I'd burst into his studio and say, 'Quick, push the button before I forget it.'

All the songs on this album are inspired by individuals and communities who are so passionate about Land, Ocean and People, they are moved to create change. They get off the fence. They put their hands up. They stick their necks out, even when its not the most popular thing to do. The truth is ordinary people can and do make a difference.

RIMA is all about exploring and celebrating people power.

The album opens with Whole Worlds Watching, the song that had this years Womad audiences on their feet. Warrior Woman pays tribute to strong women everywhere. Seashell is dedicated to the many NZers working to protect our Ocean and seabed. Rangatahi salutes young people who inspire us with their reo and oratory. Not Alone celebrates a new generation of celestial navigators and sailors in the Pacific. Aotearoa with its stirring big beats is a celebration of the primal beauty of N.Z. House of Strife co-written with Don McGlashan, is a duet with a real difference...

Water People features songman Djakapurra (Australia) and musicians from Scottish band Breabach on bagpipes and fiddle. Bagpipes, dub, taonga puoro and haka...nothing like it.

Some songs are in English, others in Maori - thanks to Scott Morrison, Dr Patu Hohepa, Kemara Kennedy and Aroha Yates-Smith. My band play across the tracks and sound wonderful. Watch the video and judge for yourself. Israel Birch, one of my favourite artists, has created the beautiful album cover. I'm grateful to Te Waka Toi (CNZ) for funding the final 5 songs on RIMA.

RIMA is now out and our launch last weekend was a wonderful positive celebration. It was lovely to see so many of our Boosted supporters on the night. This week has been a whirlwind of interviews and performances as we put the word out about the album. Pretty good reviews too! Head to iTunes or Amplifier to buy a copy online or down to Marbecks (Queens Arcade) on Queen St to pick up a real live CD! Arohanui.

As I write this, Fijians are voting in their first election for 8 years, Scotland goes to the polls for a chance to make history and NZers will hit the booths after one of the most dramatic campaigns anyone can remember. We are surrounded by choice and opportunity. So I want to thank you most sincerely for making an active decision to support our Boosted project. This weekend the Auckland wing of the band rehearsed some of our new material and we played live at the Radio NZ studios for an hour long programme hosted by Trevor Reekie that will be broadcast on Sept 27. I have lots of interviews lined up and getting excited about our album launch on the 28th. I hope to see you there. Arohanui Mx

  • Party Invitation - SEPT 28.

This week, we picked up a big box of the finished CDs. It is a special moment for any artist. I must admit I did caress the cover, with its rich blue tones and silvery foil - nice. And feverishly check the booklet for typos. Then I put the disc into the car CD player, hoping it wouldn't skip or jump.

    No typos, no skipping. Phew.

Today, we announced that our album launch party will be at the Galatos (Auckland), 5pm on Sunday September 28. We will perform our new set live. I have also invited two young acts to join us with a short set each. IHI is a reggae band that started at Auckland University. TK is a 20 year old with an extraordinary voice. Tickets can be purchased on Eventfinder

I am very touched and humbled by your support.

Ngā mihi ki a koutou e te whanau. Thank you so much. I'm very touched by the support thats been shown in our 1st week. Since then, Paddy completed the mastering just with Angus McNaughton, who coincidentally produced my very 1st two albums. The artwork was finalised and sent to Stebbings, who will manage the process of replication and duplication. So that's all under way. Meanwhile, we are planning our album launch. This will be the first concert that my band and I have played since Heb Celt Festival on the Isle of Lewis, when Trina and I had to leave for NZ. It will be a special celebration. A big group hug.

    Thank you
