"My Bonie Bell" will be the second compilation LP of songs by the Scottish bard Robbie Burns (1759-1796) on Zelle Records (the first one being "Ae Fond Kiss", 2015). My wee one-man vinyl-only label is based in Vienna, Austria, and specialises in alternative rock and pop music from Dunedin, a city whose Scottish heritage is an essential element of its identity.

The idea for my Robbie Burns LP's was inspired by Toitū Otago Settlers Museum's annual "Robbie Rocks" talent contest. "My Bonie Bell" brings together Dunedin artists of different generations, well-known local heroes and aspiring young talent, local residents and expats. As suits the Scottish themed nature of the project, there is even one musician from Edinburgh, Scotland, among the contributors.

There will be 14 very diverse songs on the album recorded 2015-2016, by 14 very different acts, ranging stylistically from Folk to Rock'n'Roll to Indie to Punk.

  1. The Sharma Brothers:Her Daddie Forbade 5.52
  2. Bridget Telfer:Afton Water4.08 (Robbie Rocks 2016 finalist)
  3. Bill Direen:Oh 88! (Elegy for 1788) 2.01
  4. Quibbok:The Fall of the Leaf 3.34
  5. Strang's Strings & Co:Ae Fond Kiss 4.03 (Robbie Rocks 2016youth section winner)
  6. Lachie Hayes:O That I Had Ne'er Married 1.55
  7. Robert Scott:My Bonie Bell 3.30
  8. The Tarseals:Coming Through the Rye 3.34
  9. Mike Puke:The Charming Month of May 4.13
  10. Darryl Baser:Banks of the Bonnie Doon 3.18
  11. Roy Møller(Edinburgh):The Fall of the Leaf 2.40
  12. Partial Fancies:Ae Fond Kiss 4.04 (Robbie Rocks 2016 open section winner)
  13. David Mitchell:Death at C 4.43
  14. Jay Clarkson:Farewell to the Highlands 3:09

The record will be made available nationally and internationally, not only as a commodity but first and foremost as a promotional tool for the artists - and as a collectible item for music fans.

The music is in, and the artwork is nearly in, and you may be wondering what remains to be done. It's simple really: become part of this wonderful project by helping me reach my campaign goal - or go even beyond that. I would very much appreciate your kind gesture - and so would the artists.

Zelle Fest was a great success. All artists and bands delivered tremendous fantastic performances that were received enthusiastically by a great audience. Thanks to everybody involved - to the artists, to sound man Iain Sweetman, to our host Jones Chin and, last but not least, to Robin and Sarah Sharma who organised the whole event. Everybody had a splendid time, and we're already dreaming of a follow-up event in a year or two.

The Boosted campain has reached 82%. Thanks to all the kind donors for their kind donations. 175 dollars is all we need to crack the NZ$1,000 threshold. If there's anyone left you haven't told about this campaign yet, now would be the right moment to do it.

Oh! We're at 54%! Thank you so much, all you donors! Jay Clarkson's track, btw, is from her Zelle album SPUR, not from MY BONIE BELL. Jay's MY BONIE BELL track is "Farewell to the Highlands".

Only six days left until the end of the Boosted campaign for MY BONIE BELL and one day (and a few hours) until ZELLE FEST at The Crown Hotel, Dunedin.

The campaign's still at 49%. I'm not a mathematician but I think we need another NZ$551 to reach our target. Tell everybody you know. Thanks a lot! :)

    Kia ora!

The MY BONIE BELL campaign has reached 49%, and there are only seven days to go. Thanks to all donors for your kind and generous support. I am pretty sure we will reach our target of NZ$1,000. Please keep up your enthusiasm and tell your mum, dad, siblings, aunties, uncles, grandparents, cousins, friends, colleagues.

The climax of the campaign is nigh: Saturday, 12 August, will see ZELLE FEST, an afternoon and evening of highly enjoyable music performed by wonderful Zelle artists, present and future, at The Crown Hotel, Dunedin. Don't miss our merch table, and don't forget to arm yourself with a cheese roll.

    Kā mihi nui,

Sorry to inform you that my application for a Creative NZ Quick Response Grant has not been successful. Thanks anyway to the people at Creative NZ for thoroughly looking at the My Bone Bell project and considering it for funding. Apparently, only 20% of applications are successful, so I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed.

That said, this Boosted campaign has become even more important. 1,000 dollars are certainly not enough to cover costs but it will be a start. What someof you may not know is that if the campaign overshoots, i.e. if it ends up generating more than the targeted NZ$1,000, that is perfectly fine, and the additional money will be used for the project. So please keep on spreading the word.

Since last Saturday, there have been some more donations: Thank you very kindly indeed, Lee Martelli-Brown and several new anonymi.
