Auckland artist Tanja Jade 'Misery' is well-known for her deviant yet innocent creations. Tanja has a unique opportunity to bring her characters to life through an interactive animated video game.

Funding from Boosted will help to commission illustrations, characters, interactive animation and story for the game.  The interactive experience will let you explore the strange dark and beautiful worlds of Holly Melancholy and her spooky ghoulish buddies.  Based on characters and art work from her acclaimed 2008 exhibition at Peter Webb Gallery 'Holly Melancholy and the Night that Saved the Day'.  Audiences will help Holly on her quest to fight the evil forces that loom in her melancholy wonderland. Experience and learn how this bizarre and magical world works.

Check out some of Holly Melancholy's other friends 'Petal and Petunia' in their very own animated adventure too.

What happens in an interactive Adventure?

Holly Melancholy's interactivity will be like a 'platform game' - think Super Mario Bros but without princesses or plumbers.  It will be available for Windows PC or Mac computers.  This is a popular genre of game, making it both easy to get into and ripe for subversion.

Holly Melancholy is also an 'indie art game'.  In recent years there has been an explosion of artistic, original, creative video games sold online without a conservative commercial publisher.  We have complete artistic control over the game.  We can bring Tanja's world to life without compromise.

How much should I give to the Holly Melancholy project?

We need something like 500 people to donate $100 each to reach our goal.  Consider how much you'd usually spend on a downloadable video game - but in addition you'll get exclusive early access to the game and will come along for the ride as we make it.

Remember that your Boosted donation is tax deducible (you might be able to get a third back in your tax return) and it helps feed artists.

I would like to invite you to my solo art exhibiton 'Momo' happening at Ponsonby Central on the 10th of May. If you would like to email me - misery@misery.com I will send you back a VIP invite.

It has been a productive little month in Miseryland, things are trucking along nicely with illustrations for the game, as well a kids book in the works and painting heaps of new artwork for the Momo show.

There is 23 days left for my Boosted campaigne and I still have a wee way to go till I reach my target. I would be most gratefull if you could spread the word to as many people as possible!

Thanks and see you at the show

Hey everybody, firstly i'd like to say a massive THANKS to all the amazing people who have supported mine and Holly's Project. We are both thrilled and overwhelmed by the incredible response we've had so far. On Wednesday eve Holly and I met up with Stephen Kinightly and the gang ( James Lambourne and Lianne Booton) and went along to the monthly Gamers Meetup held at Media Design School to show off our very first draft of Holly staring in her own game. We met heaps of nice people that were also very keen to help out on the development of the game which is super cool. So far Holly can do cool tricks with her chain saws, including chopping up giant spiders and beheading man eating plants. If you'd like to take a look, Nightline came by to visit last night- you can check it out here... http://www.3news.co.nz/Misery-artist-creates-her-first-video-game/tabid/892/articleID/293050/Default.aspx xx T.j Misery and H Melancholy
