From a young age my passion has always been music. After finishing school I went on to complete five years of Music study at Whitireia, focusing on composition, songwriting and developing trained and confident guitar skills. After graduating with a well established degree and graduate diploma, I set off to discover my own unique sound and pursue a solo career in music.

With a lot of experimenting I defined a style best described as "ambient folk", a combination of storytelling lyrics and sound-scape guitar. After doing some extra song writing and vocal coach training,  I wrote and refined six songs to record on an EP.  I saved money from teaching music and was able to record with engineer and producer, Lee Prebble at surgery studios. "The Torch Songs EP" was released in August 2013 and has been well received by reviewers and blogs across the world.

The $2000 raised will give me the resources I need to record the album in the way I have been envisioning for the last two years, using a studio which has the same equipment used on Jeff Buckley's album, Grace - one of my inspirations.

  • Half way!

(Amended post, the last one sent a bit quicker then I intended!)

The past few months have been very busy and I'm pleased to say the album is coming along really well. I'm currently in the final stages of a single from the album, which I'm aiming to release in January next year. This project could not have gone ahead without your help, so I will be offering all donars a special sneak peak listen when that time comes!

We were able able to spend two full days getting the drum sound right. This was something I did not want to rush and am really happy with how they came out.

I've been editing the album at home and spending as much time on it as I can on it.

I'm very excited to share this music, feels like it's been waiting to come out for a long time.

If you don't already, make sure to keep up to date with my facebook page:  facebook https://www.facebook.com/DylanFraterMusic

I also update regulary over here on instigram @dylanfrater

  • Final week!

Well guys we're down to the last 5 days on the campagn.  Here's a look at the Neve consol at Roundhead studios I plan to record part of the album on. There's only a few of these in the world, used on Nirvana's "Nevermind", Jeff Buckleys "Grace", and Fleetwood macs "Rumours".

Donations from friends and family have reached $1100 - which is an amazing effort!  Lets keep spreading the word though cause have a wee way to go still.

I had quite a chuckle when this photo poped up of my old highschool band 'Isotope'! The feature was put together by a good friend of mine, Steph Alderson and outlines the boosted campaign project. I'm 15 in this photo, back when I was having the time of my life playing and writing music...so, not much has changed really! check it out :)

  • The Launch Show

I've been walking around with a silly grin after The launch show. The quiet intensity in the room kept Georgie and I on ours toes as we worked our way, slowly, through a set-list including 3 song premieres. The audience were both deathly silent and loudly encouraging all at the same time, bearing with me while I took time changing keys between songs. As we approached our more heavy numbers I nervously requested the audience to "brace themself's" before hitting full throttle on the vortex song "Russian dolls" and my scretchy falsetto on "did I ever really know you".  I had a blast! Paint The Sand opened the night. Pulling us in with his waves-breaking guitar sound on the instrumental "flicker" before moving into a collection originals and covers. Thank you to all who came!
