In 2018 Motueka Arts Council is celebrating 30 years of
community arts. Our dream is to mark the occasion with a unique
celebratory sculpture that our community is proud to call their
own.
"Arrivals and Departures" is a sculpture that acknowledges all
the "Nga taenga mai me nga wehenga" in and out of our community,
and the diversity of art endeavours, skills, and knowledge that has
enriched Motueka's art culture over the years.
You can be part of it...
We invite all of you in the Motueka regional community and
beyond, to be part of this celebration.
Motueka Arts Council has already raised a third of the funds
needed for the sculpture, so we are well on the way. We need your
help to raise another $15,000 which is a further 20% of the total
cost to make it happen.
With your extra generous support ($20,000 worth!), we could
start building the sculpture even sooner.

A local artist Maeve Allen has been commissioned to design and
create this community art work. Maeve has been creating art full
time for approximately 15 years specialising in professional glass
mosaics and large sculpture designs.
The sculpture will be sited on the Motueka beach foreshore near
the wharf channel in the refurbished picnic park and cycle trail
because from pre-European times water was our highway. As the tide
comes and go so to do migratory shore birds, fish, and sea mammals,
all very much part of our natural environment.
With the sea at our back door, rich alluvial plains with clear
rivers, mountains as our back drop, and the fantastic climate, this
region offers an amazing environment. Our moderate population
quadruples every year over the spring to autumn months with
visitors, travellers, and seasonal workers all drawn to this
idyllic area.
This major sculpture depicting the modes of arrivals and
departures of many diverse cultures is also a statement of our
creative energies, where skills and arts are shared for the greater
understanding among us all and general community wellbeing.
Motueka Arts council invite our local community, and friends
from afar, to join with us to make this dream happen by giving
whatever donation you can and become part of this Motueka Community
Celebratory Sculpture.
