Pioneering singer/songwriter Jan Hellriegel has been writing, recording and performing music since the late 1980s when she formed all-woman band Cassandra’s Ears while studying at Otago. She became one the first NZ woman singer/songwriters to sign with a international label Warner Music, producing two successful studio albums - ‘It’s My Sin’ and ‘Tremble’. ‘The Way I Feel’ was a NZ hit single and helped Jan win a Songwriter of The Year award in 1993. Taking a break from the music biz to raise a family, Jan returned to the studio in 2009 with the critically-acclaimed album ‘All Grown Up’. ‘Lost Songs’, an album of unreleased material followed in 2012 and Jan has since been releasing a steady stream of new work. Aside from her own songs, Jan has lent her pipes to several well-known NZ recordings, including classics such as ‘Nature’ by the Muttonbirds and ‘So Long Marianne’ by Straitjacket Fits.
